Spurning Man 1

Posted by Andrea Thu, 28 Aug 2008 16:34:00 GMT

On Saturday, August 30, a number of long time Burning Man friends not making the journey to the playa this year are getting together to rock out at Ocean Beach in celebration of the event that has brought so many of us together. If you’re here in SF with us, we want to be here with YOU.

A miniature man built out of recycled wood will burn at Ocean Beach at 10pm, probably the same time the Man burns in BRC. We’ll have a fire before and after that with house and breaks fanning the flames. This is not the same as Balsa man at Ocean beach, see other posts for that event.

You’ve got the fur, you’ve got the el wire, and we’ve got the beats – so let’s get down! DJs TBD!! but look for friends from Cowboys, House of Lotus, and more….

Sure, you’ll miss the 8 hour drive, the dust, the glory of the Circus Circus buffet on the way home and the opportunity for creative explanations to your boss regarding that family reunion you have every year…

Spurning Man! Burning away our spurn…

Who: Friends, family, children, dogs, police, bicycles, but NO BOTTLES!!

When: Saturday, August 30 – 8PMish until ???

Where: Ocean Beach – We will try to be at one of the fire pits near stairways 15 & 16 near the parking lots off of the Great Highway north of Lincoln Way. Parking in the ocean beach lots is restricted after 10pm. If you plan to stay later, please park on side streets. Be aware that Ocean Beach is FEDERAL LAND. Celebrations & late night gatherings are legal, but please keep in mind the watching eyes everywhere except for facing the ocean!

Bring: Thanks! As well as costumes that substitute as warm clothes, wood, blankets, NO BOTTLES!! and discrete beverage containers (all in that order!!) If you have a creation out of wood you would like to burn, bring it on! Please be sure it is nail free (we suggest gorilla glue)

Let me know if you are interested in playing, building man, removing nails, squatting at burn barrel, carpooling, etc.

xx Andrea

FRESH AND SO CLEAN

Posted by PK Tue, 19 Aug 2008 20:03:00 GMT

I’ve never been in August and thought about September before… there always seems to have be something between now and then, perhaps it always was always a large amount of dust.

Well with no dust festival in my immediate future, I’m already looking forward to our next FRESH at Shine. Always the first Friday after Burning Man, September’s FRESH always rocks… and its bound to be even better this time around, cause most of us will be um, fresh, or at least not have every orifice filled with some powdery dust; um, well maybe not all of us.

So for most of us Cowboys that are staying behind to man the ranch… we can’t wait for you to get back and and come on down to Shine on Friday the 6th, and hear all about it… (even though we all know it’s always better “last year”) particularly the surprise we have in store for y’all…

See y’all soon, and be safe now ya hear!

Events for August

Hello Space Cowboy friends, freaks and followers!

We hope you have had a fun and relaxing summer. Staying cool and keeping warm alternatively. Hours behind the wheel for road trips, rocking out, lazing about and kicking back. That is what summer is all about!

This summer has been especially chill for most of our cowboy crew, because most of us are not heading out to Burning Man this year. Yes, this means no Unimog, no Black Rock Hoe Down, not sure about Martha, no ponies, and no Black Sabbath pancake breakfast (at least not at the Carpies front porch with the Unimog blasting Ozzy at the crack of dawn while all the BRC Rangers can do is shrug and enjoy their fruitloop topped waffles.) I will miss Sunday morning in BRC most of all.

This does not mean the Space Cowboys are dead, dying, splintering, disintegrating or any other drastic over exagerted adjective you may have heared on the rumor mills. Are we an institution? That one kills me. Are we just a bunch of old farts? Gettin’ there! Are we lazy economically challenged tightwads too stubborn to spend our stimulus checks in northern Nevada? Not sure. Procreating gen Xers? Yeppers! Welcome babyGreen!! We may be a bunch of burrowing spring chicks sitting on eggs of hope, awaiting the windfall that will allow us the recreational advantages of limitless budgets from years past. My gut feeling is leaning towards old and lazy, with a dash of boredom and a blast of ‘what the hell else is out there to do with our hard earned and not begged for excess fund raising $$$,$$$??’

Fear not, the Unimog and her minions will live on. Decom yes, Lovefest no, halloween maybe, and BOC resoundingly so. Our DJs haven’t melted down their vinyl (or plastic discs) to fill the Mog’s generators, and there will be ample opportunities for you to get your groove on with or without generous bass.

So have a great burn everyone. We may watch the web cast on current, or we may be in Hawaii. Chances are good we’ll be playing cards at Orange Alley, by default. Make us proud out there and REPRESENT!

All the best, Andrea
