Hello Friendly Person:

Got a quick pitch for our friends South of the Boarder.

Last week our intrepid local DJ and promoter, Murphstar, and his paramour, Courtney, tied the knot in a beautiful ocean-side ceremony in Sur Baja California, Mexico. They also agonized a lot before the wedding over whether asking their friends and family to defying the H1N1 “Swine” Flu and travel to Mexico was the right thing to do. Bottom-line, though, was that Los Cabos and the surrounding area didn’t have a single case of the flu, most flights were either direct or connected in cities that were also safe, so they called “Game on!” But many, many other people who’d planned trips down south called “Game off!” and as a result, we basically had Cabo to ourselves. Our flight down there was only 1/3rd full and most people had their own aisle. Our hotel – the Hilton Los Cabos – was at about 8% occupancy and they had just laid off 30% of their staff. We had the beaches to ourselves, the bartender at the swim-up bar reserved his blender for our margaritas, we got excellent service, and everyone down there is ready to cut a deal. Basically, Swine Flu cut Mexico’s tourism off at the knees, and I tell you all this because, if you’re fond of sand dunes and salty air, now is the time to pull the trigger on your next beach vacation. You’ll be a hero for going down there to spend money when they need it most, and you’ll get way more of all those things (sun, tranquility, service, fun) you look for in a vacation by going now when the place is more than 1/2 empty.

XO,
h8b

Saturday, June 6th – 7th ANNUAL ROCK PAPER SCISSORS TOURNAMENT with ROSHAMBO WINERY at CORNERSTONE (Sonoma)
Space Cowboys will be bring the Mog and the music to this year’s Rock Paper Scissors Tournament, and just like last year it promises to be another great Day event (hence keeping with the theme of this edition of the announcement)!

Naomi from Roshambo says:
To hoards of Bay Area faithful, early June signals the most outrageously fun sporting event of the year… Roshambo Winery’s annual Rock, Paper, Scissors Championship. The winery’s signature event will be held at their tasting room at Cornerstone-Sonoma on Saturday, June 6th, and like every year, is expected to draw hundreds of people throwing fists and fingers for their slice of the $1700 pie. Last year’s tournament drew 256 competitors and hundreds of spectators – from as far as Sydney , Tazmania, Toronto, Tokyo , D.C. and New York . “It’s a great excuse to get dressed up, slip into character, and celebrate life,” says Roshambo’s president and self-proclaimed “Wine Hero,” Naomi Brilliant. “Especially in times like these.”

Cornerstone-Sonoma, 23570 Hwy 121, Sonoma , CA
High noon ‘till 6pm
Competitors $20 – Spectators $10
