Ice Cream, Love, and Fire (Upcoming events) 1

Posted by 8Ball Tue, 22 Sep 2009 21:38:00 GMT

Hello Friendly Person:

1) So a few of us Space Cowboy DJs are playing Murphstar’s (SeismicSF.org) After The Love party on Saturday, October 3rd, right after the LovEvolution thing that’s happening on Market Street and Civic Center (preferred public urination spot of all discriminating public drunkards). Instead of just asking all the DJs to just help promote the party, Murph’s turned it into a contest to see who can get the most discount tickets sold. Now, the only thing I hate more than a contest is losing. Losing sucks, it’s crap, it’s for losers! And while Space Cowboys may have lost a few braincells, possibly a kickball game, and several sets of speaker cables, I don’t think we’ve ever lost a contest, and we certainly don’t want to start now. So, we’re asking for your help. Help! Help us bury the competition by going to http://bit.ly/cheaplove and entering the code “Space Cowboys” for your discount ticket to After The Love. If you help us, you’re really helping yourself, and that is a scientific fact! Details below…

2) It is hot outside, innit?! Ice cream weather, says me. Ice Cream Social, says shOOey! She’s playing an ice cream benefit for the California Transplant Network TODAY with Shissla, Zach Moore and others. Details below…

3) Write it down on your calendars—Saturday, October 31st marks the return of the Ghost Ship. More info about this amazing collaboration soon!

XO,
8b

UPCOMING EVENTS

TODAY – Tuesday, Sept 22nd – Feel the Beat Ice Cream Social @ Skylark We want to thank all of you for supporting us thus far! Between raising money from t-shirt sales and our various fundraisers, to signing up to be an organ and tissue donor, you are helping us achieve great success. So far we have a little over 100 signups, which is outstanding, but we are only halfway from our goal of 200!

On Tuesday 9/22, we put the FUN in fundraising with an event we think you’ll all enjoy! For only $5, you can make your own sundae complete with all the toppings you love. This $5 donation will go to the California Transplant Donor Network (www.ctdn.org). If the typical San Francisco Indian summer is in effect, this will make for a perfect opportunity to eat ice cream :) Raise your hand if you like ice cream… now raise your hand if you like eating ice cream for a good cause! :D

We will also have t-shirts (see the design HERE) for sale, and for this event only, you can purchase both a t-shirt and an ice cream sundae for only $20. Groovy beats provided by Feel the Beat DJ’s (Cor, Floorcraft, Jonboy, Shissla, shOOey, Zach Moore), so you can dance off the calories from your sundae.

Skylark is located just off of the 16th St. BART station in SF, so it is very easy to get to.

If you haven’t yet signed up to be an organ and tissue donor, you can do so by going here OR, if you have already signed up, we strongly encourage you to spread the word to your friends and family, and encourage them to sign up to become donors.

Saturday, Sept 26 – Freeform Dubalicious @ Shine
Our Feel the Beat campaign is coming to a near close with our sixth and final event, Freeform Dubalicous at Shine before the LoveVolution Music Festival. Our team has been working hard on organizing events to increase organ donation education, awareness and registrations. We are trying to achieve our goal of 200 new signups and hope to reach that target by the end of our campaign. We hope our presence at LoveVolution will bring even more recognition of the need for and importance of organ donation.

Our first float had its humble beginnings in social networking, where Jeff Ziskin (Floorcraft) and Jenny shu (shOOey) exchanged a few innocuous emails mentioning their mutual desire to join forces through dj’ing to help raise money and awareness for organ donation. Feel the Beat float made its successful debut at the 2008 LoveFest and we decided to re-launch the campaign with loftier goals for the 2009 LoveVolution festival. From our efforts, We have over 100 new organ donor registrations and hope to reach our target of 200 new sign-ups!

We’ll have our Feel the Beat DJ’s on deck as well a few other guests from the 2009 Feel the Beat team. Donor sign up forms will be available as well as our custom t-shirts, all benefitting CTDN.org.

Mancub's guide to New Orleans, The Show 9/19, Discount tix for After the Love 10/3, Decomp!

Posted by 8Ball Thu, 17 Sep 2009 21:07:00 GMT

Hello Friendly Person:

I know everyone just got back from the playa, and travel planning might be a ways off, but just in case, I wanted to share with you this extra-special travel guide that was put together by Space Cowboy DJ Mancub. See, he’s a former New Orleans local and when he heard his buddies were heading to Nawlins for a weekend he wanted to make sure they did the town right. Here’s what he said (and skip down for UPCOMING EVENTS):

MANCUB’S GUIDE TO NEW ORLEANS

Grab a Gambit (Nola’s Guardian). Check out the live music events.
Snag a map or rock your iPhone. Nawlins is flat and in a perfect square shaped downtown. It’s called the Big Easy for a reason.
Drinks….Get you ass to the Quarter.
Port of Call on esplanade. order at bar “to go” cocktails. FYI…At every bar there are plastic cups by the exit, no bottles on street, careful with public urination…only in a pinch, most places you can walk in and go without purchasing shit.
Port of Call has great burgers and baked potatoes the size of a new born. I usually get a Monsoon….really packs a punch. Don’t down this cocktail or you are in trouble. Pass that shit around and walk towards Bourbon street. Roam all around that shit. Walk down Bourbon.

Food
1. Remoulade’s (309 bourbon) the poboys, red beans and rice, turtle soup are dynamite!! Classic Nawlins Rest…off the hook
2. Acme Oyster Bar (724 Iberville/ royal st.) poboys, jambalaya, oysters, dixie, abita beer, hot sauce….very nice.

I usually buy an order of jambalaya to go and eat that shit late night. Not a whole lot of food late night since Katrina

Broussards or Antoine’s are my top 2 selecta’s for Big Dinner night. Both in French Quarter.

Nawlin’s is known for its muffalatta’s (Central Grocery on Decatur st) this place closes at 4pm(bullshit) but has dope sandwiches. Put one in the backpack and eat later.
Krystal burgers…. cheap 12 pack sliders (think White castle)
Cafe Du Monde….beignets with powdered sugar. open late night…people watching!! during the day its touristy

Sunday Jazz Brunch= Palace Cafe. enough said

Adventure
airboatadventure.com Take the Fan boat tour….sooo dope. They pick you up from hotel or rest. drive you to the swamps and back in time for drinks/dinner. So efff’n worth it.
Or, just sight see the quarter. I do that shit drunk though

Night Life
1. Maple Leaf(uptown off Carrollton…8316 Oak st) this place is sooo dope, been in tons of music video’s/movies…awesome outdoor patio action. Local live music…very Nawlins….Really Nice roach coach, The Maple Leaf is a package deal though. You must walk a few blocks after the show to
2. Snake and Jake’s (7612 Oak st) BTW it’s MY FAVORITE BAR EVER. Lots to see and do but I kick it here almost every night.
3. Tipitina’s is a Nawlin’s staple. more eklectic than House of Blues
4. House of Blue’s only go here if there is a certain show you wanna see.
5. The Dungeon off bourbon…killer dive bar, creepy hallway with an interesting patio.

There are so many dive bars and places I discover wandering

French Market off Decatour has cool outdoor shops for crap shoppin. 2 pair sunglasse for $5, T-shirt deals, alligator heads, mardi gras beads…so many side streets with cool clothing shops, bars and vintage military shit. Magazine st is the ultimate shopping street…..the whole street has cool bars and shops.
Jackson Square has some great spots to take pictures….walk to the Levee….enjoy the clean Mississippi river

Don’t
1. Drink a Hurricane anywhere….especially from Pat O’briens
2. Drink a hand grenade from Tropical Isle
3. enter Tropical Isle or Margarrita Ville
4. tour 9th ward
5. seek Vodoo…..dumb
6. cruise the levee at night

Remember you can drink anywhere so take advantage of that shit.

XO,
DJ Mancub

Who says you can’t take it with you? When it comes to Burning Man it seems you can! At least that’s how it feels, and tastes. Besides an enormous amount of playa dust, I’ve got some great memories and new friends to help me through what is always a roller coaster week… (something to do with a lack of seretonin and lack of sleep, I think). Last night we unloaded our truck and cleaned it in record time with only 8 peeps or so in 2 hours, a new SC record. We even relocated our gear to a new warehouse. Now its just sorting through it all and gettin’ the dust out, so to speak. Big thanks to everyone on the playa who made it one of our best burns ever….

Ands in case you’re wondering why the UNIMOG was on the side of the road when you left the playa, our baby had a bit of a problem with its transmission. As incredible and mean of a machine as it is, the UNIMOG takes a lot of effort and maintenence to keep it going, and despite our best efforts and diligance occassionally presents us with extreme “challenges”. We appreciate your amazing support (financial and otherwise), and hope to have it up and running again in the immediate future…..

Next up: SF Decompression!
