Trance Trance Revolution

Thanks to Space Lounger/Cowboy Herve for digging up this YouTube gem of Hitler vs Dubstep at Burningman 2010. This video has all kinds of inspiring lines: “Space Cowboys Crank It Up” will be the name of my next mix, and I’m hoping some Feel Good Fascists create a camp called Trance Trance Revolution on the playa this year.

Enjoy!

Chopper Rocket sighting in this month's DJ Mag

Posted by 8Ball Mon, 01 Feb 2010 18:22:00 GMT

If you check out the cover story in this month’s DJ Mag you’ll Space Cowboys Kit and Kirk rolling along on their Rocket Chopper. The article is about Carl Cox’s Burning Man experience, but if you ask me DJ Mag missed an even better story about the Rocket Chopper. Rather than let that story go untold, we’ve decided to bring it to you here—so now, in Kit’s words, here’s the story behind one of the coolest contraptions to cruise the playa.

Kit says…
The Chopper Rockets were inspired by our original Burning Man art project from 2000 which was a vertical rocket with fins that was also a burn barrel. We had built the burn barrel rocket with the help of Che Voigt up at his parent’s ranch. During the construction we talked about how cool it would be to be able to ride the rocket around the playa. Fast forward to 2009 and Kirk and I decided to build an art car for our return to the Playa. Talked it over with Che and he was completely on board with the project including building one for himself.

The bodies of the rockets are fuel tanks from old military aircrafts and the classis are Honda Elite scooters. We strip the scooter’s bodies and stretched the wheel base about 10”. We upgraded the battery and suspension, and modified the kick stands. We cut out the insides of the fuel tanks and added access panels, fitted the bodies onto the bike, and added the ape hanger handlebars, some lights and decals. The whole project took two months with a lot of help and support from Che, Cairenn, and David Bothun.

They were a lot of fun riding on the Playa and we loved seeing peoples’ reactions to them. We can’t wait to bring them back next year.

Live from Ghost Ship, Episode 6: DJ Brad Robinson

Posted by 8Ball Tue, 05 Jan 2010 19:57:00 GMT

Space Cowboy DJ Brad Robinson has been a standout in the group for years. If you’ve seen him play a Space Cowboy party any time in the last 10 years, you’ve probably also seen a whole squadron of cute girls getting freaky in front of the decks, while this tall, skinny guy rocks out behind them. Brad’s known for bringing that old school flavor of house: big, funky, and fun.

Here’s what Brad Robinson had to say about the party:
It was so impressive walking into the Treasure Island warehouse that night to the Ghostship party. With a busy schedule this year, I didn’t have much time to help with the preparations, and couldn’t have imagined the amazing hard work and detail the SC team and friends put into this one. The energy in that warehouse during the party was pretty great as well. I think that the bridge closure required a lot of people to go through extra effort to get to Treasure Island, so we ended up with a room full of very dedicated Space Cowboy fans. There is of course nothing better :)
He played:
  1. Disco Junkie – Time to Move On
  2. Hirshee – Upside Down (Club Mix)
  3. Totally Random feat. Marcus Valentine – That Feeling (Mass Motion Remix)
  4. Paul Gardner – You Can’t Hide From Yourself (Original Phat Club Mix)
  5. Jesse Perez – Hoochie Mama
  6. Wax Master/Benjamin Shook/PM Project – Ghetto Shout Out (Benjamin Shook 2009 Mix)
  7. Hirshee – California
  8. DJ Delicious & Till West – NYPD
  9. Wolfgang Gartner – Push & Rise
  10. Pre Modelo – The Rhythm, The Rhyme (Pre Modelo Original)
  11. Wolfgang Gartner – Flashback
  12. Fatnatikz – Bringin It Back (Gramatik Mix)
