A Unimog Recovery Story

Posted by Andrea Mon, 22 Dec 2008 19:29:00 GMT

Our 1973 Unimog received a brand new transmission this fall.

We took a few pictures for all of you gear heads out there. The entire cab had to be removed. Years of pre-playa, as well as mucho playa dust are visible on the engine and transmission that needed to be lifted with a crane.

A big thank you to Scott and our friends at Expedition Imports up in Vallejo for having the shop, know-how and amazing talent and gusto to baby our sick Unimog. Only in the bay area could you find a shop specializing in Unimogs. Hooray!

Shipshape!

I feel like I’ve basically moved to Treasure Island… which isn’t such a bad thing, the view is amazing, there’s plenty of room, and I know all my neighbors. The one downside I’ve found is that there is no place to buy a beer…. or I should say was… cause we officially took care of that problem today, so on November 1st you can look forward to the drink of your choice! So yeah, things are moving along.

Speaking of moving, we’ve secured parking for 500 cars for the event, but please consider carpooling, taking Muni from the Transbay Terminal, a taxi, or our free shuttle from Civic Center, particularly from an ecological and safety perspective.

The haunted house is becoming frighteningly real and the GhostShip itself has appeared like a mirage in the night…. the hanger is already a sight to be seen and you won’t believe the soundsystems we’ve lined up for the 3 rooms…

We can’t wait, and neither should you, buy your tickets now at groovetickets and avoid any hassles at the door and breeze right in….

Decom & GhostShip Update

Posted by PK Thu, 16 Oct 2008 07:46:00 GMT

Howdy y’all!

Big thanks to all of you who came out to Decompression and rocked it out with us! There is a reason its one of our favorite events each year and if you were there on Sunday then you know why! Extra special thanks to Schlomo, Danny, Ryan et.al. for allowing Mr. Janky to fill in for the Unimog; which is currently in “drydock” preparing for GhostShip, readying her cannons of boom for maximum mayhem! But Mr. Janky looked oh so swanky at Decom; with the new RIPE sign (props to Bluekoosh & team!) and put out such a such a good time that there was no way we could not have him join the GhostShip armada (along with other Decom fave: the Dust City Diner!)
And very special thanks to our “funky” special guest “era benissimo”!

The GhostShip is taking shape…. We’ve got 3 rooms of sound, with a system for the main room that we can’t even believe ourselves… an ever increasing anount of art, an amazing haunted house and tons of rooms for lounging, maxin’ and relaxing…. we’re working round the clock on this one, which means an epic event not to be missed….

A lot of peeps have been asking about transport to the island…. here’s your options: carpooling (we’ve got space for approximately 500 cars), taxis (especially great for going to the Island, and we’ll be letting the cab companies know to expect pick-ups for the way home), the Muni 108 which runs every 40 minutes from the TransBay terminal all night, the free bio-diesel GhostShip Express hourly from Civic Center Plaza. We’d like to encourage responsible behaviour from both an ecological and safety perspective…

Discount pre-sales are available now at Groovetickets.com!
