Hey Cowpokes,

The latest episode of the Space Cowboys RIPEcast, ‘Zach Moore Live from BoC 2010’, is now available.

There are two ways you can get this mix:

1) By subscribing to The RIPEcast (for free) at the Apple iTunes store. The link below will take you to the RIPEcast page in iTunes where you can subscribe with a mere click of your mouse. :)

2) Or if you don’t use iTunes, you can get Zach’s BoC set right away (along with all the other RIPEcast sets we’ve released to date) using this link

A few words from Zach on his BoC experience:

In more ways than one the 2010 renewal of Breakfast of Champions was very special for me. I made my DJ debut with The Space Cowboys after three fruitful and rewarding years with my good friends at The Deep End. Like the other 3,000 plus who packed Mission Rock, I indulged in the magical vibe and world-class debauchery that make BoC the greatest party of the year in San Francisco. And the whole experience was further-enriched by the fact that many of the people who helped make that day possible for me as a DJ, either through their years of support and encouragement (Piper, Darren, Sh00ey, Bali to name a few) or their influence in our community (Andrea, Clarkie, Kramer and PK to name a few more), were there celebrating the New Year along with me.

Breakfast of Champions is not sold out, tickets will be sold at door. Pass it on! 4

Breakfast of Champions IS NOT SOLD OUT!

We HAVE stopped selling pre-sale tickets, but we will have $10 admission (same price as pre-sale) at the door.

The line for non pre-sale tickets will probably be a little longer and slower, so we recommend you arrive EARLY (around 6AM) with the rest of the champions.

There are no ins & outs, so everyone who leaves makes room for another dancer!

We will be working closely with security at Kelly’s to ensure everyone has enough space.

Thanks for all of your support and Happy 2010!

Answers to some Breakfast of Champions questions 3

Hello Friendly Person:

Glad you’re all sounding as excited for tomorrow as we all are—and you’re also asking some questions that I’ll try to answer.

Fake Person I made up so I can write an answer asked
Can I bring in a back pack?

The venue has asked people NOT to bring backpacks. We’re hoping this won’t mean they won’t let any backpacks in, but we’re not 100% certain what the deal is with this. First it was okay, but as of last night we were hearing it wasn’t. Best advice is AVOID BRINGING A BACKPACK. The bare minimum is that the bag will have to be searched thoroughly, and that will slow down everyone’s entry into the event.

ElleBoogie asked
Can’t wait for BOC! Do you think it’ll be cool if we bring in a camel bak of H2O?

The venue has asked us to refrain from bringing any sort of liquid containers. I know, it’s a bummer, but they also said they’d have cups that can be reused for water, etc. Not the greenest answer, but (and I have a feeling we’ll all be saying this a lot) this is our first BoC with Kelly’s and we’re going to have some kinks to work out.

LoneSole asked
No fluids , like at the airports? Are they worried about a terrorist attack?

I don’t think so. But now I am. Thanks for freaking me out! :P

PaddyO’Furniture asked What if you can’t stop dancing?

The DJs are counting on that, Paddy!

CdubsG asked
Since when was Breakfast of Champions anything close to a “home based business enterprise”? Can’t wait!!!

Got me. & us either!

kevin pescadorr asked
i can’t wait! i’m stoked theres more room to dance this year…! it says i need prior permission to bring my drum (medium size hand drum). i’m in a samba band, i don’t suck or let everybody go bongo fury on my drum…can i please bring my drum? i’m kevin dorn on the pre-sale list. thanks in advance!

A hand-sized drum should be fine. Larger drums, the kind you can hide a body in, those are another matter.

Rajter asked
Hey can we buy advanced tickets at any neighbourhood record stores or is it only online or at the door ?

Just online or at the door. But the price for each is the same. No gouging here, it’s $10 wherever you get your ticket.

hoop monster asked
Is it hoop dance friendly?

It is. And it isn’t. Here’s the challenge. We’ve got a lot of people coming to this party, and we’ve got a finite amount of space. So you’re welcome to bring your hoops, but whether you’ll be able to find enough room to use or not is another matter.

10 years of Breakfast (BoC event info & line up; more events; mixes)

Hello Friendly Person:

Raise your hand if you were at the first Breakfast of Champions in 2000 at Pier 23. Space Cowboys used to have this whacked-out all-nighter on New Year’s Eve at the San Francisco Motorcycle Club; it was like a psychedelic disco at a roadhouse with a speakeasy in the back. Back then, everyone was young, resilient, and had the stamina to make a New Year’s Eve stretch for several days. Of course, come the dawn everyone was completely brain-cooked and had the thousand-yard stare, but ain’t no one was thinking about bed. Before 2k, the revelers would retire from the Motorcycle Club at daybreak, and spend New Year’s Day hunkered down in someone’s apartment, drinking Budweiser, recapping party highlights, and solving the problems of the world. But in 2k, a few industrious fellas in the group got the bright idea to have a real after party. I think the official team was French Nic, Roy, and Pootie, and I don’t think the party even had a name that year. I get to take credit for coming up with the name “Breakfast of Champions” when I was designing the first flyer (for the following year). A bunch of times Nic’s made the false claim that the name was his idea, but he’s French, so who are you going to believe? Even with everyone crammed under a small tent to avoid dancing in the rain, the first New Year’s Day party was a big hit – DJs had a blast and the crackheads loved it.

(Update: I’m told it wasn’t raining the first year. My memory’s shot. It’s all a blur!)

Eventually we put the New Year’s Eve party to bed. There are a million things to do on New Year’s Eve and it’s basically amateur hour; anyone can go out to party on New Year’s Eve. But 6am on New Year’s Day is for the professionals.

We moved BoC to the Potrero Brewing Company, and had a breaks room upstairs amid pool tables. PBC folded after the dotcom collapse, but then it reopened as Whisper, and we were pleased to learn that BoC was a selling point for the new owners.

Today, we’re 10 years in, and we’re back by the Bay at Kelly’s Mission Rock. We’ve had more than 50 DJs play more than 200 sets for more than 10,000 dancers over the last decade; we’ve run bars dry, we’ve made bathrooms filthy, we’ve looked our ugliest, raggedest and sweatiest, and we’ve had more fun that ought to be legally allowed. That said, we’ve also been mainly incident-free (with the exception of the guy last year who was a “danger to himself & to others” and had to be carried out, restrained on a body-board – dude, you rock!), and we’ve always had a happy friendly vibe. As many people have put it, “Breakfast of Champions is like a reunion, where you see all your friends – the ones you see every day, the ones you don’t see enough, and the ones you haven’t met yet.”

So, on behalf of Space Cowboys, thank you to everyone who’s been part of the madness over the last 10 years. Thank you DJs, bouncers, bartenders, and most importantly all you Champions!

See you Friday!

xo, 8

FLYER INFO:
“Kelly’s feels that it is essential to the success of Breakfast of Champions, and the continued operation of Mission Rock as a venue for our “community”, that there be no flyering of cars.

Now I’m not suggesting that any of you would actually flyer a car (i know such manual labor is far beneath y’all anyway) but you may “know” such people, or see people you “know” engaged in such activity.

If you could do what you can to help stop it from starting in the first place, or asking peeps you may know to stop, it would be greatly appreciated. We far prefer for peeps to partake in that long lost art of one-to-one flyering in the line or even in the club. i know it’s soooo old-school, but its far more effective, especially when done by those young attractive types.

More so I’m asking for you to help us spread the word….”
