Live from Ghost Ship, Episode 6: DJ Brad Robinson
Space Cowboy DJ Brad Robinson has been a standout in the group for years. If you’ve seen him play a Space Cowboy party any time in the last 10 years, you’ve probably also seen a whole squadron of cute girls getting freaky in front of the decks, while this tall, skinny guy rocks out behind them. Brad’s known for bringing that old school flavor of house: big, funky, and fun.
Here’s what Brad Robinson had to say about the party:It was so impressive walking into the Treasure Island warehouse that night to the Ghostship party. With a busy schedule this year, I didn’t have much time to help with the preparations, and couldn’t have imagined the amazing hard work and detail the SC team and friends put into this one. The energy in that warehouse during the party was pretty great as well. I think that the bridge closure required a lot of people to go through extra effort to get to Treasure Island, so we ended up with a room full of very dedicated Space Cowboy fans. There is of course nothing better :)He played:
- Disco Junkie – Time to Move On
- Hirshee – Upside Down (Club Mix)
- Totally Random feat. Marcus Valentine – That Feeling (Mass Motion Remix)
- Paul Gardner – You Can’t Hide From Yourself (Original Phat Club Mix)
- Jesse Perez – Hoochie Mama
- Wax Master/Benjamin Shook/PM Project – Ghetto Shout Out (Benjamin Shook 2009 Mix)
- Hirshee – California
- DJ Delicious & Till West – NYPD
- Wolfgang Gartner – Push & Rise
- Pre Modelo – The Rhythm, The Rhyme (Pre Modelo Original)
- Wolfgang Gartner – Flashback
- Fatnatikz – Bringin It Back (Gramatik Mix)

Live from Ghost Ship, Episode 6: Zach Moore Kramer
If you were rockin’ the “Treasure Chest” room at Ghost Ship from about 3:00 AM onwards you may have done a double take after seeing a taller, better-looking version of me behind the decks. Now, I’d love to take credit for the tasty beats that had us all begging for more even after security pulled the plug at 4 AM sharp. But all the credit goes to our pal, Kramer, who as far as I’m concerned (and granted I’m a little biased) also pulled off one of the more memorable costumes of the evening (see photo).
Zach Moore and Fake Zach Moore
To most of you Kramer needs no introduction. He has been a fixture in the SF Dance community for over fifteen years and is a core member of The Deep End camp at Burning Man. Kramer is also, and please pardon the baseball analogy, the DJ equivalent of the “clean-up hitter” (which is one of several reasons I’ve nicknamed him “Yaz”, a reference to his favorite player while growing up in Connecticut). And if you’ve ever experienced one of his legendary Saturday afternoon closing sets at The Deep End, you’ll understand why that analogy fits. Yes. Kramer “swings the heavy lumber”, as they say, and we were thrilled to have him in one of the closing slots at Ghost Ship this year. Enjoy Boys and Girls!

Live from Ghost Ship, Episode 5: Trav
Another bait and switch mix—it’s true that Seismic’s Trav did play live at Ghost Ship, but this set isn’t that exact set. Not sure what the gremlins did exactly with that recording, but we’re happy to have this mix from the Plump DJs party at Mighty as a replacement (thanks again to Zach Moore).
About this mix Trav says:It was a thrill to close Mighty for the Mighty Plump DJs @ their Global Underground CD release party. My set started at 3am, the floor was packed, and people were seething, frothing, and generally ackin’ the fool. I cut my DJ teeth on hard, funky breaks, so it was great to bring those back for a furious dancefloor. The set closes out with a couple mellow tracks—no need to push people’s faces into the cheese grater until the last track—gave them something peaceful to head home with. I don’t play these types of sets often, so enjoy!Track list:
- Plump DJs – Get Kinky (unreleased coco-supahfly remix)
- The Booty Bouncers – Get Dirty Baby (Friendly Remix)
- Aquasky – Have a Good Time feat. Acafool
- Move Ya & Steve Layers – The Ride
- POD, Bowser – Get Loose
- Christian J – Party People
- Ian Carey – Lose Control
- Fort Knox Five – Funk 4 Peace
- Shystie – Nu Style (Deekline & Ed Solo Mix)
- Crisp Biscuit – Brooklyn Banger
- Twelve Inch Taffy – D4L vs. Bass Kleph (Trav’s Swolen Ankle Mix)
- Cari Lekebusch – Shaded (Compuphonic & Kolombo Remix)
- Santogold – Lights Out (Tepr Emo Remix)
Live from Ghost Ship, Episode 5: Murphstar
That’s right, it’s time for another installment of Live from Ghost Ship, this time with DJ Murphstar.
Actually, this recording is from the Plump DJs show a couple weeks ago. See, we had this little problem during the recording of Murphstar’s Ghost Ship set, but thanks to some fast thinking, Zach Moore managed to plug a recorder in the mixer at Murph’s next gig, and voila!
Zach posted this mix earlier in the week to his Gough Street Sessions podcast, and he had this to say about it….
Not only is MurphStar a phenomenal DJ in his own right (I’ve heard him play on a dozen occasions at least and he’s never failed to whip the dance floor into an absolute frenzy), he’s also well-known for bringing some of the best international talent from the world of breakbeat to San Francisco. Murph was at it again on November 20th as his crew, Seismic, welcomed the venerable Plump DJs to Mighty to celebrate their much-anticipated CD release on the Global Underground label.
Murph wasted no time lathering up a dedicated dance crowd for the Plumps and, amazingly, I was able to record his entire opening set!!! If you know Murph (or me), you may also be familiar with the long, sad saga of many failed attempts on my part (due to technical difficulties or drunkenness) to record his live sets. But the DJ gods must have been smiling on us that evening because the recording went off without a hitch. And I have no doubt you’ll find yourself grinning from ear to ear, and bobbing your head, to this tasty breakbeat set from MurphStar. Enjoy!
