Ahhh, defrost! SnowFest rocked!

Big thanks to all of you who came out to SnowFest! It was perhaps the best yet. The Mog sounded (and looked) great and so did all of our DJs! Oh, you looked great too! Did I look great? Probably more like exhausted, cause I was, having just too much fun. I think the only time I sat down was on a chairlift. It was great riding with you all and seeing so many smiling faces. It even snowed on our parade, and it only made it better! The only negative experience I had was being forced to pull the plug on Saturday afternoon (....bitches), but y’all quickly resumed the mayhem Saturday night. Mad props all around. Friday night was the biggest (and perhaps craziest) night the Plaza Bar had ever seen (more on that some other time) no small part due to Rrrus, Brad Robinson and Tamo (w/ help from Viajay). Outside at the Lakeside was equally ridiculous (w/ djs J9, Bassben, Rrrus and Brad), especially when you factor in the temperature. The dance-floor inside just didn’t quit either (w/ Aaron Jae, ShOOey, Mancub Shissla and Kapt’n Kirk on the ones and twos).

Thanks to all of our RIPE friends, both non-djs and djs alike who gave a hand one way or another throughout the course of the weekend.

Most importantly, I want to give a special shout out to all the non-DJ Space Cowboys, who rarely get any love, but really deserve a big chunk of the credit. Next time you see them, tell them how much you loved their set, err I mean contribution, and let them know you realize it just couldn’t happen without them. They are the true rock-stars.

I’ve got to go get a massage now, but we’ll see y’all soon!

-pk.

Raining on our parade (thanks for those who came out to the End Up)

First off, I want to thank everyone who came on down to the End Up for The Show this past Saturday. It was a really freekin’ fun time. The DJs rocked it and the dance floor was packed the entire night, even with the rain. It was great to see so many familiar faces and hang out with a bunch of new ones at that. I really want to thank everyone for their patience in dealing with the line (and the door process in general). Many of you heeded our advice and came down early (thank you!) and yet encountered an unnecessarily long line. Many of you were rock-stars and patiently waited, and some understandably bailed. I want to personally apologize for that unnecessary part. That’s not how the Space Cowboy’s roll. We talked to the club about it as it was going down; and WE did everything we could at the time to get you solid peeps in there…. but it still didn’t go down not exactly as we would like, and I personally was frustrated about it. There were certain behaviors by the door staff that just weren’t acceptable… and assure you that you’ve got no better advocates than us, we take a quality night out seriously AND CLEARLY SO DO YOU!!! So thanks again for coming down, (despite our soggy weather) and rockin’ it with us again!

On the upside, all this soggy weather means killer conditions in Tahoe, and we’re getting stoked about SnowFest! It’s Friday March 5th – Sunday March 7th. Much of it will be similar to last year (why not? that shit went off!) ... Rockin’ it slope-side at Squaw all day on Friday and Saturday; with nocturnal mayhem Friday night at Squaw and Saturday night in Tahoe City at the Lakeside. Get your lodging squared away now, and get ready for some alpine shenanigans!

Let it snow!

Snowfest 2010!

Damn it’s cold… I thought I moved to California to escape this (or maybe it was just my family I was running from?). Anyway that was a long time ago, and I’ve clearly softened up over the years; at one point I even moved to SoCal in a partial attempt to warm my ailing self… But soon after, I started dearly missing two things: my friends and Tahoe. Luckily I had SnowFest… that special time of year when both converge! I would always make the trip back for it… even when I lived in that terrifying part of our country called the Midwest (cold AND flat; what’s the point?), Always, the last weekend of February or the first weekend of March, this year it falls rather late: Friday, March 5th – Sunday March 7th. Yup that’s right folks I said FRIDAY! If you’ve never been to Squaw for SnowFest Friday, you’ve been missing out. Imagine Squaw weekday empty AND the Mog boomin’ slopeside! Needless to say a huge percentage of the peeps on the hill you actually know… and that’s just heaven, not to mention catching all the Friday afternoon and evening festivities, good tunes with the Mog slopeside, cocktails, fireworks, torchlight parade, some Absolut/Bacardi Babes and always one missing kid with a frantic mom that gets found five minutes after her panic attack climaxes in explicatives yelled at the dj. Then there’s the after-party at the Plaza Bar with the SC djs, SF hipsters, Kiwi lift ops, and those legendary Squaw cougars!!! Saturday day we rock it at Squaw with the Mog all over again. This year we’ll be doing our Annual Saturday night Snow-down again at the Lakeside in Tahoe City… It’s only December, and we’ve still got BoC at Kelly’s and The Space Cowboys Show at the End Up between now and then, but all those reports of snow up there just got me all excited and I wanted to remind you to book your accommodations now! Those who know, know the Cowboys love the snow, so let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Happy Holidays from all of us at the Space Cowboys!

a bootyshakin' roadmap OR the UNIMOG schedule for 2009

We here at the Space Cowboys are very, very excited for our return to the playa. After our much needed break last year (twelve years in a row ain’t bad) we’re re-charged and ready to rock. We’ve got a great bunch of events planned, a great bunch of other camps we’re stoked to collaborate with; and of course we’ve got an incredible line-up of djs, from our own amazing crew, to our international “celebrity” friends, all excited to rock your world (or at least shake the dust off your ass!). We never like to ruin the surprise of great music, so you won’t find any line-up cheatsheets here (that just takes the fun out of it). but its gonna go a little something like this:

Monday night – The UNIMOG, SC djs & special guests go BLUE (Happy Birthday Chrissy!) at the Braindrop (11pm – 4am)

Tuesday afternoon The UNIMOG, SC djs and friends rock out the greeters! Just our way of giving back, and saying hello.

Tuesday night – The UNIMOG shows its dark side at False Profit.

Thursday sunrise – The UNIMOG & SC djs say arrrgh at Swashbuckler Sunrise (the saloon out by the fence).

Thursday afternoon – The UNIMOG strips with the SC djs at the Chinchilla Lingerie Show (3pm-6pm), somewhere behind our camp, listen for the Mog, or ask us before.

Thursday night /Frday early AM – The UNIMOG, SC djs, guests & a laser show rock the Flaming Lotus Girls’ SOMA. (1am- 4am)

Friday afternoon – The UNIMOG & SC djs Shissla & ShOOey rock out Rock Bottom (formerly known as the Deep End)!

Friday night – The Space Cowboys 9th Annual Black Rock Hoe Down at the Raygun Gothic RocketShip. With the UNIMOG, Martha, Jimmy, The Janky Barge, Garage Mahal’s Ganesh mobile and a flotilla of other art cars.
We’ll have a BYO cup bar for your drinking pleasure, grilled cheese and bacon at sunrise. This IS the one not to miss folks, why do you think we’ve been doing it so long?

Saturday afternoon – The UNIMOG, SC djs and those Rock Bottom Deep Enders, get the dust off all afternoon at Disorient’s ArtCar Wash

There’s more to come…. but we know how everyone likes to plan everything out with the best intentions, if only to be distracted by cool beats and blinking lights!

Questions? Requests? Drop a line to pk (at) spaccowboys.org

or

Swing by our camp, the ol’ RIPE Ranch at 3:30 & Esplanade!

See you out there!
